The North Image neighborhood could get a new drive-thru coffee shop and store, according to pre-application documents filed with the city of Vancouver.
Vancouver developer MAJ Development has filed to build a coffee shop and 2,000-square-foot building at Springbrook Station, a plaza at the corner of Northeast 112th Avenue and Northeast 51st Circle. The building would be set aside for retail or commercial purposes.
The application doesn’t mention a specific coffee company nor a tenant for the retail building. The stores and added parking would be built on a grass field just east of a 7-Eleven. The property is owned by Springbrook Station LLC, based in Camas.
Developers are set to meet with city planners at 9 a.m. June 8. For more information, contact Jon Wagner at 360-487-7885 or jon.wagner@cityofvancouver.us.

In a release put out today, Target confirmed that it has signed a lease with Vancouver-based MAJ Development Corporation for the building at 3031 S.E. Powell Blvd. The retailer plans to open a 32,100-square-foot store, which it expects to open in July 2018.
The store will be a “small format” store much like Target’s downtown Galleria location. It will offer groceries, apparel, toys and sporting goods, home items, electronics and a CVS pharmacy.
“We are always motivated to bring retailers and consumers together; however, we are more excited than ever for the opportunity to work alongside Target to introduce their small-format concept in our marketplace,” said Michael Jenkins, president of MAJ, in a release. “In addition to benefiting from the ideal location on Powell Boulevard, customers will conveniently have ample parking. The site will have upwards of 100 stalls, including covered parking, electronic car charging, and dedicated car share spaces. We see great success for Target at this location.”
As first reported by the Business Journal, MAJ purchased the building at 3031 S.E. Powell Blvd. last summer for $4.8 million from AMF Bowling Centers Inc. The developer announced that a new retailer would be taking over the spot after a renovation set to commence sometime after August. MAJ’s original announcement said the bowling leagues would be winding down at the end of May and that AMF would prepare to vacate soon thereafter.
In a follow up story, MAJ said the bowling alley would likely close “at the end of the summer” and that construction for the new tenant would begin “shortly after.” That appears to be the plan in place to prep the building for Target’s opening next summer.
In August of 2016, MAJ Development Corporation acquired the 31,200-square foot building located at 3031 SE Powell Boulevard in Portland, Oregon. Currently it is leased to AMF Bowling Center.
Michael A. Jenkins, President of MAJ Development, recognized the barriers to entry in the dense urban market and anticipated the potential for future redevelopment. Understanding the location in conjunction to the nearly 100 parking stalls in the covered parking garage, not currently used under its current operation, MAJ plans on updating and upgrading the building without losing its nostalgic features.
After the current bowling league season concludes at the end of May, AMF will prepare to vacate. MAJ Development Corporation will begin the redevelopment of the building starting in August 2017. MAJ Development Corporation has secured a long term lease with a National Retailer who is taking the entire building; plans for the new tenant will follow at a later date.
We thank AMF Bowling Center for the years of fun and the memories they have created for their patrons.
